# Newcastle enquire for powerful Valencia defender

Newcastle have reportedly lodged an enquiry to sign Everton target Aymen Abdennour from Valencia.

According to a report from French news outlet Foot Mercato, as claimed by [GFFN](https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2017/newcastle-enquire-for-aymen-abdennour/), the Magpies are one of many Premier League clubs to have expressed an interest in landing the Tunisian powerhouse this summer.

Abdennour has somewhat underwhelmed out in Spain and could be looking to enjoy a new challenge elsewhere. Having already played in Ligue 1 and now La Liga, English football could pose an attractive prospect to the centre back.

The Magpies are understood to be keen on landing a new defender this summer as they plan for life back in the Premier League, and Abdennour would certainly be a statement of intent.

However, Newcastle will not sign Abdennour without facing some serious competition from elsewhere. While Everton are cited with strong interest, Marseille are also keen to bring him back to France and have already held ‘several meetings’ with the player’s representatives.
