# Newcastle considering Griffiths move

Newcastle United are being linked with a move to sign Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths.

According to a report from the [Daily Record](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/celtic-striker-leigh-griffiths-targeted-10605227), the Magpies are being joined by West Brom as they weigh up a swoop for the Scotland international as they look to bolster their attacking options.

Newcastle forward Aleksandar Mitrovic is being linked with a move away from the club and if he is to be sold, this could prompt Rafa Benitez to eye up striking replacements.

Griffiths produced a highly impressive display only yesterday as his native Scotland welcomed England in a World Cup 2018 qualifying match. The forward netted two free-kicks in quick succession to give his side a surprise lead, but the deficit was reduced in the closing moments and the game finished 2-2.

Celtic prefer to only play one up front under Brendan Rodgers and it’s safe to say that Moussa Dembele is the preferred choice, so Griffiths may find consistent first-team game time elsewhere.

The clinical finisher has netted an impressive total of 64 goals in 95 league games out in Scotland.
