Tammy Abraham is set to join Newcastle United from Chelsea on a season long loan deal, according to The Times.
The 19-year-old forward spent last season on loan at Championship side Bristol City where he scored 26 goals in 48 matches.
Rafa Benitez was impressed with Abraham’s Championship campaign last season and the player is said to be excited at the prospect of playing under the Spaniard.
Abraham’s move to Newcastle was expected to go ahead last week and the delay raised fears that the youngster didn’t want to leave London to head to a club up north but the deal now looks to be imminent.
The exact terms of the loan deal, which will see Newcastle pay Chelsea a loan fee as well as paying a percentage of Abraham’s wages, are still to be finalised but the deal is expected to be completed this week.
Newcastle are desperate for a new striker for the upcoming season after Dwight Gayle made just seven starts in 2017 due to injury.
Yesterday, Abraham was named in Aidy Boothroyd’s England U21 squad for the upcoming Championship in Poland. Their first group match is against Sweden on June 16th.
