# Semedo decision to be made next week

Sporting CP defender Ruben Semedo has been heavily linked with a move to Newcastle in the last few weeks, and they certainly look to be leading the chase to sign him.

Reports of the two clubs agreeing a deal were somewhat premature, as confirmed by his agent, but it looks as though a decision on his future is set to be revealed in the coming week.

Catio Baldé, Semedo’s agent, is claimed by the [Chronicle](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/newcastle-united-news-transfers-live-13134051) to have insisted that the Portuguese defender’s fate will soon be known to all, as scrutiny clouds his long-term future at Sporting.

The Magpies are clearly in pole position to land the £13m-rated central defender but may yet face competition from other clubs in England, with the likes of Southampton and West Ham both touted with interest in recent times.

Newcastle are evidently keen to bolster their defensive options and it looks as though Rafa Benitez has eyed Semedo as the perfect man to do so.
