Newcastle are ready to meet Arsenal’s £15 million valuation of defender Kieran Gibbs, reports the Chronicle.
The left-back is widely expected to leave the Gunners this summer after falling down the pecking order at Arsenal.
Gibbs has seen game time hard to come by and following the switch to a three-back formation, both Nacho Monreal and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have been preferred out wide to the England international.
Strengthening at the back seems to be a key objective for Rafa Benitez this summer with the Magpies being linked with moves for Eibar’s Florian Lejeune and Ruben Semedo from Sporting.
The defender has just 12 months remaining on his contract at the Emirates and Arsenal may consider a summer deal to avoid losing him for nothing next summer.
Having only featured 11 times in the league during the season just finished, the 27-year-old is likely to be open to a move away, especially during a World Cup season.
