# Newcastle offered Italian international defender

Newcastle United have been offered the chance to sign Inter Milan defender Andrea Ranocchia this summer, the [Chronicle](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/newcastle-united-offered-inter-milan-13102367) reports.

The Italian international spent the second half of last season on loan at Hull City, where he impressed under Marco Silva.

Ranocchia had fallen out of favour at Milan and was keen to get his career back on track.

Both Swansea and Olympiacos have been linked with a move for the defender who is keen to stay in the Premier League.

Ranocchia and Rafa Benitez have a bit of history too. It was Benitez who played a key role in taking the Italian to the San Siro, just days before he left his post with Inter Milan. During his time with Napoli, he also tried to sign him also.

Defence is one area Benitez has paid particular attention to this summer with a number of deals lined up as they prepare for Premier League football.
