Newcastle are considering a move for Manchester City goalkeeper Willy Caballero if Pepe Reina is unattainable this summer.
The Northen Echo reports that Napoli are asking for somewhere in the region of £5 million for the Spanish goalkeeper, leaving Caballero as the cheaper option.
At the age of 34, Newcastle are unwilling to spend £5 million on Reina, who would arrive back in the Premier League with hefty wage demands as well.
The Magpies are in the market for Premier League quality this summer and Caballero would arrive with plenty of experience under his belt.
The Argentinian’s wages may be in a similar bracket to Reina’s but having the option of arriving on a free transfer will appeal to the newly-promoted club.
It was recently announced that Caballero would leave Manchester City at the end of his contract, despite featuring heavily during Pep Guardiola’s first campaign.
Guardiola has secured a deal to sign Benfica goalkeeper Ederson this summer and his arrival would leave City with four senior goalkeepers, including Joe Hart.
