# Newcastle close to securing striker on loan

Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham is close to joining Newcastle United on a season-long loan, as per a report from Rob Draper of the [Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-4563784/Chelsea-s-Tammy-Abraham-verge-joining-Newcastle.html).

There had been talk that Abraham would be kept at Chelsea for the 2017/18 campaign as the Blues now have to cope with the demands of a Champions League campaign and having already lost Dominic Solanke to Liverpool, they do look a little bit short of numbers in attack.

However, Chelsea have decided that a season playing regular football in the top-flight will be hugely beneficial to Abraham and will help with his development.

The 19-year-old scored 26 goals on loan at Bristol City last season and was one of the stand-out strikers in the Championship and he’ll now look to make the step-up to the Premier League.

Leicester City and Brighton were keen to get a loan deal secured for the player but Rafa Benitez personally went to meet Abraham to persuade him to get a deal done. Benitez met the England U21 star at St George’s Park on the day of his wedding anniversary, so Mrs Benitez must be a forgiving and understanding wife!
