# Semedo’s agent dismisses Newcastle talk

Newcastle appeared to be closing in on a move for Sporting CP defender Ruben Semedo earlier today, with [reports](https://readnewcastle.com/2017/06/01/newcastle-have-e14m-bid-for-ruben-semedo-accepted/) suggesting that a €14m bid had been accepted.

However, the young Portuguese defender’s agent has taken the time out to totally dismiss these claims, insisting that no bid has been received nor has it been accepted by Sporting CP.

Catio Baldé, Semedo’s agent, spoke to [Noticias au Minuto](https://www.noticiasaominuto.com/desporto/805476/empresario-de-ruben-semedo-nega-acordo-com-o-newcastle-e-tudo-mentira) about his client’s future and was quick to deny the truth in the reports that Semedo was [Newcastle](https://readnewcastle.com/)-bound.

> Totally fake. It’s a lie. It isn’t minimally true. There isn’t a bottom of truth. It’s all a lie. Ruben is at the national team and it’s all a lie. There’s nothing.

Given the severity of Baldé’s comments, it doesn’t look like any progress has been made in Semedo’s expected move away from Sporting this month.

It looks as though Newcastle haven’t actually made a bid to sign Semedo ahead of the summer transfer window, but are still claimed to be holding an interest in signing the former Portugal Under-21 international.

They face competition from the likes of Southampton and Everton though, with both also cited with interest.
