Rafa Benitez has identified Arsenal and Tottenham target, Florian Lejeune as a possible summer target reports the Northen Echo.
Benitez has gone about bolstering his squad, readying them for Premier League football following their immediate promotion back to the top-flight.
Eibar defender Lejeune is valued at around £8.7 million by Eibar, despite joining the club last summer for just £1.2 million. Lejeune joined Manchester City in 2015 but failed to make a single appearance before leaving just 12 months later.
The Spanish manager has targetted Manchester City’s Ellaquim Mangala, who spent last season on loan at Valencia.
Both players would add pedigree to the current Newcastle squad and with Grant Hanley expected to leave this summer, numbers will be needed at the back.
Lejeune is contracted until 2020, but Newcastle believe they can convince the 26-year-old to move to the Premier League this summer.
