# Newcastle plotting Layun move

Newcastle are reportedly keen to sign versatile Mexico international Miguel Layun from FC Porto this summer.

According to a report from the printed edition of Portuguese news outlet Record, as cited by [Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/newcastle-join-race-mexican-benitez-snap-former-watford-player-just-e6m/) today, the Magpies are one of three clubs across Europe to have taken an interest in the technically gifted Mexican.

Currently plying his trade out in Porto, Layun has shown on several occasions that he is capable of playing in a number of different roles up and down the left hand side, and squad depth is something that Rafa Benitez will undoubtedly be keen to bolster this summer.

Espanyol and Roma are both claimed to have expressed an interest in the defender, so Newcastle are sure to have some strong competition if they are to pursue their reported admiration of Layun.

However, he would come at a considerably cheap price, with Porto stated by Record to take just €6m from his sale.
