# Newcastle Player Ratings: Cardiff (A)

Newcastle continued their chase of Brighton at the top of the Championship table with a 2-0 win over Cardiff in Wales.

The win takes the Magpies just one point below the league leaders, but Albion have a game in-hand to play this weekend.

It would take a big slip now from Brighton to hand Newcastle the league title but Rafa Benitez’s men are not giving up and did all they could tonight – get the three points.

The first half was a tame affair, with the highlight being Sean Morrison’s disallowed goal for Cardiff. The defender was adjudged to have committed a foul as he rose highest to head the ball into the back of the net.

But Newcastle were vastly improved in the second half and scored their two goals through Christian Atsu and Isaac Hayden.

Atsu scored a superb free-kick to open the scoring before Hayden capped off the win with a cracking strike from 20-yards which swerved into the bottom corner.
