Newcastle United have taken Everton defender Josef Yarney on trial with a view to signing him at the end of the season.
Yarney came on as a substitute during Newcastle U23’s 2-0 win over Middlesbrough U23’s at the Riverside on Friday night and will continue his trail next week as the Magpies decide whether or not to keep him.
The 19-year-old has been at Everton since an early age but his two-year contract at Goodison Park expires this summer and as it stands, he’s set to become a free agent.

Newcastle, who can secure promotion back to the Premier League with a win over Preston North End on Monday night, are looking to start getting more from the academy, something that Rafa Benitez is passionate about.
At every club he’s been, Benitez has always tried to strengthen the academy and he’ll be doing the exact same at Newcastle as he looks to establish the club in the top flight once again.
