Newcastle eye summer move for Ryan Shawcross

Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez will try to sign Stoke City defender Ryan Shawcross in the summer, if his side secure promotion this season.

It looks highly likely that Benitez will guide the Magpies back to the Premier League at the first time of asking and, as reported by Jack Pitt-Brooke of The Independent, he will look to bring in the 29-year-old as and when promotion is confirmed.

According to the report, Benitez wants to add more players with Premier League experience to his squad and although both Ciaran Clark and Jamaal Lascelles have played well this season, it looks like the manager wants to add more quality to his squad.

Shaw cross is still pretty much an ever-present in the Stoke side but the Potters have allowed him to reach a point where he will only have one year left on his contract by the time the transfer window opens.

At that point, if he decides he fancies a move, Stoke might need to cash in so they don’t lose him for free in the following summer.
