Cheick Tiote is set to complete a deadline day move to Chinese Super League side Shandong Luneng after six-and-a-half years on Tyneside, according to Miles Starforth.
Speculation surrounding Tiote’s future has been present every window since he signed for Newcastle back in 2010 – though the quality of team competing for his signature has changed dramatically.
Back in 2011, it was Liverpool and Manchester United competing for the ‘£25million-rated’ man’s signature; in the present day, it’s Sporting Gijon and Shandong Luneng.
The lure of a lucrative pay packet in China proved stronger than the bright lights of La Liga and Tiote has reportedly agreed a two-year deal with Shandong.
Poor form and a string of injuries damaged Tiote’s Newcastle legacy after starting out superbly on Tyneside. His silk and smooth partnership with Yohan Cabaye was imperative to Newcastle’s European charge in 2012 – and his fine form attracted attention from the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United.

He may not be remembered for his performances in the early days and rather his form post-injuries, but his sensational volleyed effort against Arsenal to complete the unforgettable 4-4 comeback will live on.
Tiote will also be remembered for his ill-discipline – picking up 63 yellow cards and two red cards in 156 appearances for Newcastle. If you fancy a challenge, attempt to name all 33 teams he picked up a card against below.
