Newcastle have made a loan offer to La Liga side Leganes for midfielder Gabriel, according to GianlucaDiMarzio.com.
According to the report, the Magpies have also included a clause that means they’ll be obligated to purchase the player outright if they secure promotion to the Premier League.
Rafa Benitez’s side currently sit second in the Championship table, two points behind leaders Brighton and seven points ahead of third-placed Leeds United so there is a very good chance that they’ll be playing Premier League football again next season.
Leganes, meanwhile, are in a relegation fight. They sit just one place outside the relegation zone in La Liga, so they’ll be keen to keep hold of their midfielder for the remainder of the season.
He’s played in all but one of Leganes’ La Liga games this season and with them battling relegation, it might be difficult to get them to let him leave in January, unless the financial benefits for the club, i.e loan fee and future fee, are too good to turn down.
