Why Jonjo Shelvey Will Become a Newcastle Great
When we signed Jonjo Shelvey in the 2015 January transfer window our fans had mixed emotions about his arrival. This mixed emotion turned into severe doubt as Shelvey put in poor performance after poor performance and was eventually dropped by Benitez for the last five weeks of the season. However, since then, his performances have grown in stature and his influence on the team has been excellent.
At the age of 24 (with 6 England caps already to his name), he is an undoubted talent and just 14 games into the season, he has already shown and proved just how good he is. Although he has only 3 goals and 5 assists in these 14 matches, his qualities go far beyond just goals and assists. It is the way he can dictate games with his vision and his incredible passing ability which makes him so important to our team; not only for this season but also for the future. Shelvey is definitely a major part of our team and I think he will prove this and show just how much of a talent he is when we are back in the Premier League where we belong.
Newcastle fans love a player who plays with passion and wears his heart on his sleeve; Shelvey is definitely such a player. When he gets the ball there is a general buzz of excitement around the stadium as the fans anticipate a defence-splitting pass or an effort at goal.
If he continues to cause excitement every time he gets the ball and if he continues to make things happen then there is definitely no reason why he cannot become a Newcastle great and a fan favourite over the next few years.
