After having recorded losses in their opening two games of the season, Newcastle United have won their last five league games, netting 15 goals in the process; six of these goals came in Tuesday night’s demolition of QPR.
It was a seriously impressive display against a side which many have tipped to finish quite high this season (perhaps even pushing for a play-off place). This result means that Newcastle now sit 2nd in the table with 15 points; only one point behind leaders Huddersfield.
However, there is no time for the team to rest on their laurels as the games come quick and fast in this league and there is yet another game to be played this weekend.
Next up is a home game against Wolves on Saturday afternoon (3 p.m. kick off). Walter Zenga’s side currently sit 16th in the table with 9 points from 7 games (3 wins and 4 losses). Wolves have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last eleven away games and they have failed to score in 3 of their last 5 league games. Given the aforementioned statistics and Newcastle’s current form, it is difficult to look much further than a comfortable Newcastle win. My prediction for the game, for what’s it’s worth, is a 3-0 win to Newcastle.
With Newcastle having only played on Tuesday evening, I think Benitez will rotate the squad a little bit. This is who I think Benitez will start with on Saturday afternoon (using the 4-2-3-1 formation).
