According to a report in the Chronicle, Newcastle United Captain Jamaal Lascelles has warned his teammates that they cannot allow any sort of complacency to creep into their game.
The Magpies have hit a rich vein of form recently and have won their last five games (including an EFL cup game against Cheltenham). This winning streak means that they now sit second in the Championship table with 12 points from a possible 18.

Newcastle’s latest victims were Derby who they beat 2-0 at the iPro stadium on Saturday afternoon. This clean sheet was Newcastle’s fourth in a row and it is clear that they are starting to build some solid momentum.
However, despite this momentum, Lascelles has pleaded with his fellow players to keep their focus and maintain their professionalism. After their victory against Derby on Saturday Lascelles said:
I have played a lot of games in the Championship. I’ve said to the players that we can’t be complacent. Okay, we are Newcastle United and we have been in the Premier League for years and we’ve got a massive club and massive history. But, it’s a tough league and Derby, credit to them, they came out and put on a good show. There’s a lot of talent in this league so the only thing I said to the boys was: ‘Don’t get complacent, stay professional and do your all.
