Newcastle United’s disappointing start to the Championship season continued on Saturday afternoon. Following their 1-0 defeat away at Fulham, the Mags were humbled by Huddersfield Town, turning in a below par performance.
Chancel Mbemba returned to partner Jamaal Lascelles in the centre of defence, whilst Mo Diame made his debut behind Dwight Gayle.
Gallowgate Flags created an exceptional display in the Gallowgate, with the atmosphere pre-game being at it’s best for some time. However, the fans excitement couldn’t be mirrored on the pitch. Yet again the Toon played a cautious, possession based game, which quickly dampened the mood.
The sell out crowd saw their side head into the break behind by a goal, with Nakhi Wells putting the Terriers in front in added time. Dwight Gayle, who had little opportunity at Craven Cottage, levelled the game having seen his penalty saved.
Huddersfield would emerge victorious though, with Jack Payne slotting into the far corner to send the home fans to the exits.
