# Emmanuel Riviere told he can leave Newcastle

According to a report in the [Chronicle](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/newcastle-united-striker-manu-riviere-11715691), Newcastle United flop Emmanuel Riviere is wanted by [Hamburg](https://readbundesliga.com/), Olympiakos and Stade Rennes.

Riviere arrived on Tyneside back in 2014 for £6 million, but it is fair to say that the striker’s time at the club has been nothing short of disastrous. In two years at the club he has made only 26 [Premier League](https://readpl.com/) appearances and scored a measly one goal. He is yet to feature in a game under Benitez.

Newcastle currently have a huge squad, and as a result, they need to clear out some of the deadwood. Riviere can definitely be classified as deadwood and he has now been informed that he is free to find a new club as he is surplus to requirements at Newcastle.

Newcastle are unlikely to recuperate anywhere near the £6 million they paid for him, but if someone offers around £3 million for him, they should take the money and run. Another option would be to send him out on a loan deal for a season with the option of a permanent move .

According to a poll put forward by the [Chronicle](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/newcastle-united-striker-manu-riviere-11715691) it seems that not many would be sad to see Riviere leave the club this summer. The poll was entitled “Would you give Manu Riviere another chance?” and a whopping 85% of those who answered clicked on “No”. With his record over the past two years it is not hard to understand why.
