According to Sky Sports News, Newcastle United have turned down bids for 31-year-old defensive midfielder Cheick Tiote and 23-year-old winger Florian Thauvin.
The Middle-East club Al Jazira Club wants to sign Tiote on a multi-million-pound three-year contract. However, Newcastle were not happy with the amount of money that was offered for him and, as a result, they have refused to let him go.
With a lucrative deal to join the Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua falling through at last minute back in January and this new deal for a lucrative move to the Middle-East having just come to an abrupt halt, Tiote must be wondering what he has done to upset the footballing gods.
Tiote sat out of Newcastle’s friendly win against Southend on Tuesday due to the interest shown by the Al Jazira club. However, he is now back in training with Newcastle.
Yesterday, the Shields Gazette reported that it was almost certain that Thauvin would be joining Serie A Lazio on a season-long loan with the option of a £9 million permanent move at the end of the season.
However, Newcastle have turned down Lazio’s bid for Thauvin because the offer they proposed was way below Newcastle’s expectations.
The new season is just over two weeks away and we are still unclear as to where these two players will be playing their football next season.
