According to recent reports in the Shields Gazette, Newcastle United winger Florian Thauvin is closing in on a season-long loan deal to Serie A side Lazio.
After a poor first five months at Newcastle, Thauvin returned to Marseille on loan for the last four months of the 2015/2016 campaign. He has since returned to Tyneside and has played a part in all four of Newcastle’s pre-season friendly matches. However, it is fully expected that he will be playing his football somewhere other than St. James’s Park next season.
Recently, as reported by The Chronicle, Marseille have been in contact with Newcastle regarding a new loan deal for the 23-year-old winger. However, as stated by the Shields Gazette, it is now highly likely that Thauvin will be plying his trade with Lazio in the Serie A next season.
The proposed offer is a season-long loan move with the option of a £9 million permanent move at the end of next season.
Lazio are looking for a winger to replace Antonio Candreva who is expected to leave the club this summer amidst serious interest from Inter Milan and Napoli.
