The Guardian have reported that Liverpool have agreed a £25 million deal for Newcastle United’s Georginio Wijnaldum after having thrashed out terms on Thursday morning.
Wijnaldum, in his first, and by the looks of it his only, season at Newcastle, scored 11 goals and provided five assists in 38 Premier League performances. Understandably, Newcastle were very keen to keep hold of their top goalscorer and were under no strain to let him go. However, he had his mind set on returning to the Premier League and it now seems that Newcastle have reluctantly agreed to grant him his wish.

Liverpool have flown out on a pre-season tour of America and according to the Liverpool Echo, they are hopeful that Wijnaldum will soon be able to fly out to join them so he has time to adapt to life as a Liverpool player. It is even a possibility that his medical could take place across the pond in California. Agreement of personal terms will be no stumbling block. When the deal is completed, he will become Liverpool’s sixth signing of the summer Transfer Window.
Rafa Benitez is now looking for someone to replace Wijnaldum. Newcastle had originally demanded a money-plus-player deal with Liverpool, with Lucas Leiva and £20-25 million being one of the proposed offers. However, no agreement could be made.
