The Scottish international has been at Rovers since 2008, when he joined their youth set up, and he’s progressed to become an integral part of their side.
However, a move to Newcastle seems too good for him to turn down and he looks set to become the latest player to join Rafa Benitez’s squad.

Benitez has been given full control over transfer activity at St James’ Park and it was always likely that he’d look to strengthen his defence.
Former club captain Fabricio Coloccini has left the club, as has Steven Taylor, so defensive reinforcements were definitely needed and Benitez has seemingly decided that Hanley is the man to improve the squad.
The 24-year-old knows the Championship well having played 44 league games for Rovers last season, something which should benefit Newcastle, as plenty of their players will not have much experience playing in the division.
