# Dummett wanted by three Premier League clubs

Newcastle United face an unlikely transfer battle on their hands as **three** Premier League clubs have been credited with an interest in Welsh defender Paul Dummett.

Crystal Palace, Stoke City and West Brom will all reportedly go head-to-head for Dummett’s signature, though Newcastle are still in full control as the academy graduate has recently penned a new long-term deal.

The 24-year-old has been a key figure in the Magpies’ defensive line-ups in the last two seasons – much to the disapproval of some fans who would prefer to see Massadio Haidara or Kevin Mbabu, a natural right-sided centre-half, given the nod.

Dummett has improved dramatically over the past twelve months, even with a persistent hamstring injury; from a shaky defender looking to pump the ball long at the first instance, to a consistent defender, executing the basics well and confident at playing out from the back.

The Welshman is now averaging more tackles, interceptions & blocks per game, as well as a greater pass completion, while conceding less fouls.

[The Chronicle](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/paul-dummett-wanted-three-premier-11369222) believe Dummett would be happy to remain at St James’ Park, though the club may be tempted to cash-in ‘for the right offer’ – which is more likely to materialise if he performs well at the European Championships.
