Newcastle United midfielder Andros Townsend has admitted his delight at having finally scored at St. James’ Park.
The North East side beat Swansea City by three goals to nil, with strikes from Jamaal Lascelles, Moussa Sissoko and Townsend himself sealing an impressive victory.
Previous goals from Townsend for the Geordie side were not able to lead to victories but having set up Sissoko for Newcastle’s second of the game, he added a third and celebrated with the kind of passion that Rafael Benitez’s side have missed for much of the season.
Speaking to the media after the game, as reported by the club’s official website, Townsend expressed his sheer delight at the victory.

“It was a relief, really. I think I’ve scored two goals as consolations and I wasn’t able to celebrate, so it was great to get my first goal at St. James’ Park and round off a great day, with three points and three goals to give our goal difference a big boost.
“I’m feeling good, and I’ve shaken off the little hamstring niggle I had. I’m fighting fit and raring to go.
“I’ve scored two in the last few games and hopefully, I can score a few more to help this club stay up.”

Newcastle have five games remaining to save their season but have a game in hand over relegation rivals Norwich City and are just three points behind them. The north East side have a home game against Manchester City coming up on Tuesday before travelling to Liverpool for a difficult trip at Anfield next weekend.
