Benitez reacts to Lascelles call to show more heart

Rafa Benitez has reacted to last week’s comments from Jamaal Lascelles as he called for the team to ‘show more heart’ after their 3-1 defeat to Southampton in the Premier league. As per The Shields Gazette.

Lascelles was the only player to speak to the media last week and after his honest comments about his teammates, he was praised by fans for his honesty and for stepping forward to speak to the media.

After a poor display by Steven Taylor at St Mary’s saw the geordie lad withdrawn at half-time and was replaced by former Nottingham Forest defender Lascelles, who under the circumstances went on to have a decent game and the only player to come out of the game with any credibility.

Here is what Rafa had to say about Lascelles: “I was really pleased because he (Lascelles) was saying what everybody is thinking outside.

“We know that we have to give everything. We know we have to do better and we know that we have to show character.

“Maybe in some games we are not doing what everybody is expecting.

“Quite possibly, also it is not just to say these things because the is key on the pitch. He is sent to do his best, and he is not scared of the challenge or what he has to do.

“I think he is really good, really positive. What we are expecting from them is to tell the right things and the right things on the pitch. “

Newcastle are desperate to avoid the drop but face a massive battle as Norwich currently remain out of the danger zone with five games left to go Newcastle need to act fast to retain their Premier League status.
