Jonas Gutierrez has won a discrimination case against Newcastle United, as per a report by the Shields Gazette.
The 32-year-old claimed that reason Newcastle did not play him was because they wanted to avoid having to hand him a new contract.
The Argentine had a clause in his contract that stated a one-year extension would be automatically triggered if he hit a threshold and he claimed that the reason he wasn’t being selected was because they didn’t think he’d be healthy enough to play in the Premier League long-term.

Gutierrez says that two months after he started receiving treatment for testicular cancer, he knew the reason why he wasn’t being picked. Newcastle argued that the decision not to play him came from then manager Alan Pardew for performance reasons, but the tribunal ruled against the Magpies and in favour of the Argentine.
In all, the tribunal judged in favour of Gutierrez on two of four claims but dismissed hi claims of unfavourable treatment and another of harassment related to disability.
