Rafa Benitez has been mentioned as a potential candidate to become the manager of the Spanish national team by the man who is currently in the job.
Vicente del Bosque is set to step down from his role as Spain boss after this summer’s European Championships and when asked about who could replace him, he mentioned the current Newcastle manager as one of the options.
As reported by the Daily Mail, he said:
There are many good Spanish managers – Benitez, Roberto Martinez, Julen Lopetegui. Finding a new manager is very easy.

If Benitez can’t save Newcastle from the drop this season then it is almost certain that he won’t manage the side in the Championship, in fact, he has a relegation release clause in his three-year contract, but even if he can keep the team in the top-flight, it appears that he could possibly be given the chance to manage his national side.
If Newcastle do stay up but Spain decide they want Benitez, then they’d have to compensate the North East club.
