Thirteen Premier League clubs are currently monitoring the progress of Gent hitman Laurent Depoitre according to the Telegraph, with Newcastle being one of them.
Scouts from all over the country are flocking to Belgium to see the player who has scored 10 goals so far this term, scoring 4 in 6 and registering a goal in the champions league group stage, helping the Belgian club into a last 16 tie with Wolfsburg. Scouts from Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, Leicester, Crystal Palace, Stoke, Aston Villa, Everton, West Ham, Southampton, West Brom and Sunderland are all keeping tabs on the player but Tottenham are believed to be the only club to have made a formal offer regarding the 27-year-old who’s deal expires in June 2017. The player has been compared to Christian Benteke due to his physical and aggressive nature on the pitch.
Former Gent goalkeeper Fred Herpoel confirmed a definite interest from Tottenham by saying: “Depoitre, I think he will soon leave Gent.
“I do not know if it will be for January, but in any case, I think he will go to England at Tottenham. He has no offer, but I know that Tottenham are closely following him.”
Should Graham Carr and the scouting team be looking at Depoitre if they aren’t already?
