Newcastle’s Dutch sensation has no regret over summer move

Speaking to The Shields Gazette, Newcastle’s top scorer and standout player Gini Wijnaldum insisted he has no regrets over rejecting Everton for a £14.5 million pound switch to Tyneside in the summer. The Toffees were reportedly in for Wijnaldum, but it was Newcastle who captured the Dutch Player of the Year, who has gone on to score 9 goals for Steve McClaren’s side this season.

Wijnaldum said

It’s a different challenge.

I knew at the beginning that it could also be a tough season because last year was also a tough season.

I had a good feeling with the choice that I made at the time.

I spoke with Lee Charnley and the manager, and they gave me a good feeling about coming to the club.

I’m still glad I came to Newcastle. The supporters love me, and I get support from everyone at the club.

Wijnaldum has taken to Tyneside brilliantly, producing some mesmerising performances, including the exceptional display against Norwich. Wijnaldum scored four goals during the game, which ended  6-2 at St James’ Park.

Gini is a fully-fledged international for The Netherlands, earning twenty-four caps and scoring four girls. He was part of the side which came third in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Wijnaldum shot to fame following a successful season at PSV, where a side including Manchester United’s Memphis Depay, winning the Eredivisie in 2014/15.

How many goals do you think Wijnaldum will end the season on?
