Newcastle United travelled to Vicarage Road searching for the vital 3 points that could have lifted them out of the relegation zone. Instead they met a Watford side who were up for the fight, coming away with nothing.
The Magpies looked the more likely side to score in the first half, with numerous chances. They tragically lacked the finishing product. Aleksandar Mitrović looked the most threatening player in the line up, but as recent storylines have shown, he lacked the composure to make the most of the numerous chances.
After a strong start Newcastle fell apart in the second half, conceding immediately after the re-start. Ighalo’s goal was quickly followed by Craig Cathcart’s left footed strike. Newcastle made two changes, bringing on Ayoze Perez and Yoan Gouffran, who both had chances to bring to Magpies back into the game. United did have some fight left in them, scoring in the 71st minute through a Jamaal Lascelles header. Newcastle could do no more, ultimately losing 2-1.
