After a two game run, Newcastle United have returned to their losing ways, this time against Watford F.C. at Vicarage Road. Had Newcastle of won this match, it would have seen them move out of the relegation zone, following Norwich’s 5-4 loss against Liverpool.
Watford took full advantage of an injury stricken Newcastle. The Magpies without starting left-back Paul Dummett, Under-21 full-back Kevin Mbabu and key midfielder Jack Colback. Watford seemed to dominate the midfield, despite being outnumbered, chasing down the majority of Newcastle’s possession
Despite this, Newcastle had their fair share of scoring opportunities that went begging, not a good day at the office for Aleksandar Mitrović, Ayoze Pérez and co.
The Watford goals came from Odion Ighalo in the 46th minute and Craig Cathcart in the 58th minute. Newcastle’s only goal came from stand-in defender Jamaal Lascelles, who got on the score-sheet with a superb header following a Jonio Shelvey corner in the 71st minute.
