Newcastle United faced Watford at Vicarage Road this afternoon looking to build on their 2-1 win over West Ham.
Steve McClaren opted to use a 3-5-2 formation which worked so well against the Hornets in the FA Cup. Jamaal Lascelles made his first start in the Premier League, as did Henri Saivet. Rolando Aarons made a welcome comeback from injury to play on the left hand side of midfield.
Newcastle went in at half time drawing 0-0, having looked dangerous on the counter attack. However a defensive lapse just after half time saw Ighalo net the opener. Newcastle looked to get the equaliser as Perez and Gouffran were brought on, both should have scored within minutes of being introduced. They were made to pay. Craig Cathcart pounced on some poor defending to smash a left footed shot home from all of 7 yards, Rob Elliot being left helpless.
Moussa Sissoko won a corner after some good work down the right, Jonjo Shelvey whipped the ball in for Jamaal Lascelles to head home his first for the club, on his full Premier League debut.
Newcastle introduced Manu Riviera back to first team action with 2 minutes to go, only to see him miss another headed chance whilst free in the box.
All in all a day to forget for the Magpies.
