Newcastle United were apparently the front runners for Saido Berahino just yesterday, however Chelsea have now overtaken them as favourites to sign the West Bromwich Albion striker.
According to The Express, Sky Bet have put Chelsea as favourites to sign the England Under-21 player, with Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle playing catch up.
It is known Berahino wants the opportunity to play European football, with Spurs seemingly the club he wanted to join. The side had bids turned down in the summer for Berahino, who seemingly fell out with the club over the issue.
Berahino has scored 33 goals in 97 appearances for the Baggies, attracting interest from the upper echelons of the Barclays Premier League. The 22-year old signed a three and a half year contract at £20,000 per-week in 2013, meaning his contract will not end until 2017.
Steve McClaren was yesterday told to break the bank for the Burundi-born striker.
