According to reports today from L’Equipe, Newcastle United winger Florian Thauvin is set to depart St James Park after just six months. The tricky winger has been linked with a return to France with Marseille despite just joining the magpies in the summer for £12-million.
It is believed that Thauvin would welcome a return to France after having a somewhat unremarkable stint on Tyneside so far. He has made just twelve appearances for Newcastle this season, most from the bench, with the Frenchman unable to break his way into Steve McClaren’s struggling side.
Thauvin could leave Newcastle as early as Friday should negotiations progress as quickly as Marseille would hope. It remains to be seen whether Thauvin would return to Tyneside next season should the deal go through. The winger has undoubted ability but, like many others, has failed to adapt to the Premier League. However, with such a large sum invested last summer, it would come as a surprise if Steve McClaren would allow the player to depart St James Park this winter.
