Newcastle United’s proposed £10-million transfer for Jonjo Shelvey has been given a major boost today. According to The Express, Swansea City have bid £3.7-million for Nigel De Jong.
De Jong is seemingly free to leave AC Milan having not featured since his dismissal in the 1-1 draw with Verona in December.
The proposed move for Shelvey has developed quickly over the last 24 hours with initial reports claiming Newcastle United were in talks for the former Liverpool man, then suggesting an acceptable bid had been made.
The possible signing of Shelvey has grown on Newcastle United fans, especially when you consider his superb form last season. Alan Curtis did question the midfielders mentalility recently though.

Newcastle United are also reportedly close to signing winger/central midfield player Henri Saivet from Bordeaux, with the player reportedly on Tyneside.
