According to The Chronicle’s reports, Newcastle United have ended their interest in Tottenham and England international winger Andros Townsend, after Tottenham placed a £10 million price tag on the player.
Many clubs have reportedly been interested in signing the winger, furthermore it is said that Townsend wants out at White Hart Lane. His recent performances have been poor for the North-London side, unlike his form for England, leading to a lack of playing time at club level.
However, Newcastle have their eyes on another England international player, that being central-midfielder Jonjo Shelvey, who currently plays for Swansea City. The midfielder has not consistently featured in recent games, with the same reports linking it to his poor performances.
Newcastle have long been interested in Bordeaux midfielder Henri Saviet, although many people are saying that Steve McLaren should get experienced players, instead of trying to struggle by using players without Premier League experience, something which Jonjo Shelvey and Andros Townsend both have.
Reports claiming that Newcastle have put a £19 million bid in for Lyon player Alexandre Lacazette have been played down, and Newcastle United have insisted that the story about this transfer, recently published in French newspaper ‘L’Equipe’ are incorrect. Lyon have also said that they are ‘confident’ that Lacazette will stay with them after this transfer window closes.
