Coventry City boss, Tony Mowbray, has voiced his concerns about the verbal agreement to keep Adam Armstrong at Coventry City until the end of the season.
The reports, in the Coventry Telegraph, state the paperwork for Armstrong’s extension have yet to be signed, over a week after Steve McClaren told the media about the deal.
Armstrong has been a revelation for Coventry this season, but may be forced to cut short his League 1 escapade should parent club Newcastle be unable to sign attacking reinforcements this month. Mowbray told the media,
We’re not trying to pre-determine what Newcastle’s business is but they are maybe in the market for a centre-forward to help them stay in the Premier League and if they find that signing in the next week or so, potentially, they might make Adam’s continuation at Coventry more concrete.
But at this moment in time I don’t feel as if they need to make any announcements as they try to hopefully strengthen their squad if they can.
The former Boro boss also took time to praise Armstrong’s attitude and commitment. The young star has been a key member of Mowbray’s squad so far, despite this being his first real chance away from Tyneside.
He gets on with the group, has got good friends here who I think will be friends for the rest of his football career and I think he enjoys coming in to work,” said Mowbray. I don’t think he sits pining for Newcastle or pining for home. I think he enjoys the environment he’s in and has a young group of players around him with similar likes and interests. He has fun every day in training; I can see that in how he goes about his job. Let’s wait and see.
