Earlier today it was announced and subsequently reported by Shoot.com that Newcastle are close to signing 18-year-old Albian Ajeti on loan. The Swiss teenager is hoped to follow a similar path as Toon sensation Ayoze Perez who was a seemingly unknown player until his rise to stardom on Tyneside.
The Basel youngster is utilised predominantly as a striker, but has been used out wide on some occasions. Ajeti has had experience in the Basel first team clocking in 118 minutes for the Swiss side, scoring 5 in the process. Ajeti has appeared in European matches, with 7 minutes in the Champions League and 11 minutes in the Europa League respectively.
The 18-year-old has represented the Swiss under 21 side and impressed at the recent European Championships, the teenager is also eligible to play for Albania like his brother.
Ajeti is out of contract at the end of this season, so this would ensure a cut price deal for the under-21 star if he is successful in Peter Beardsley’s development side.
