Loan Update, Two Good-Two Bad

As we enter the half way stage in this weird and not-so-wonderful season for Newcastle United, I take the time to look at some of the players that have been loaned out to other clubs in seemingly greener pastures in some cases. The question is, how are they getting on?

Two Good

First up, a player that has been raved about this season, England Under-19 international Adam Armstrong. Here’s some of his goals so far:

With an impressive 16 goals in just 22 games for the Sky Blues, Armstrong leads the scoring charts in League 1, it has also been rumoured that young Armstrong may even get a recall this window back to St. James’ to help the struggling Magpies. My opinion? Go for experience, let the lad have his fun storming League 1 and hopefully come back a more promising player than he already seems.

Next, Remy Cabella, the 25 year old French international has had a decent season by all accounts while playing for Marseille – grabbing 2 goals, 3 assists and 2 Man of the Match awards. According to the reliable database http://www.whoscored.com/Players/85693, Cabella has an average rating per game of a 7.14 – statistically putting him into the Ligue 1 team of the season. This shouldn’t come as a shock to Toon fans, we saw glimpses of Remy’s creative flair and ability now and again, but he seemed to have struggled to settle in a league which is renowned for being physically demanding. Rumours in The Chronicle circulate that he has now played the required amount of games needed to trigger the transfer clause between Newcastle and Marseille, so should he stay beyond the end of the season, we wish him well.

Two Bad

After his great loan spell at Rangers last season, scoring 9 in 15, Haris Vuckic’s season has been far from that for the Latics. Another season plagued with small injuries means Vuckic has only appeared 4 times for Wigan Athletic, having little impact in Gary Caldwell’s team. A strange one indeed, is it finally time to let him go? One thing is for certain, he needs to up his game to play any part in Newcastle United’s future.

Although he bagged a brace the other week, Shane Ferguson hasn’t seen much starting action for loan club Millwall, who have been lacking in consistency this season to say the least. Ferguson has played 16 games for Millwall, 12 of those appearances coming from the bench. It is unclear where Ferguson’s career lies, he hasn’t yet proved himself at club level, despite showing good form for Northern Ireland, staring in the recent international triumph against Germany.
