According to Sky Sport’s live transfer blog, Sheffield Wednesday are set to steal Mike Williamson away from Wolverhampton Wanderers. The deal is reportedly worth £250,000 with Williamson favouring the Owls due to their ability to meet his wage demands. Williamson moved to Tyneside from Portsmouth and subsequently was promoted to the Premier League.
Williamson has made 169 appearances for the Magpies but has found himself exiled since Steve McClaren’s appointment, firstly moving to Wolves on loan and now discussing potential moves during the winter window. The acquisition of Chancel Mbemba seemed to be the end of Williamson’s first team career at United.
The Owls are looking to push on in the Championship, battling for a play-off spot at the very least. Manager Carlos Carvahal is said to be interested in Williamson due to injuries to first choice centre half Tom Lees.
The Sheffield club are currently 7th and just 2 points outside the play-offs.
