According to French newspaper Foot Mercato, Henri Saivet is close to a deal with Newcastle United. The midfielder, who captains Bordeaux, is set to move after rumours he’s looking to gain experience abroad. One point to consider is Saivet’s long career at Bordeaux, having spent the majority of his youth and senior career at the club.
Manager Willy Sangol is said to have slapped a €4-million price tag on his captain. Saint has had a great season in Ligue 1, being one of the most consistent performers in the engine room.
The Chronicle was first to break the story however on their website, they confirm a source close to the player has confirmed his desire to leave, with Newcastle being one of few suitors for his signature.
The 25 year old Senegalese international impressed scouts from numerous Premier League clubs including Everton, Southampton and Stoke. His stock rose after an exceptional performance against Liverpool in the Europa League earlier this season.
With Vurnon Anita injured and Jack Colback nearing another suspension, The Magpies could use a player of Saivet’s abilities.
