According the The Mirror Ayoze Perez has insisted Newcastle United will finally take cup matches seriously despite Steve McClaren’s favoured starting XI playing 3 games in 7 days prior to the tie at Watford.
The club haven’t come near to domestic silverware since the defeat against Manchester United in the 1999 FA Cup Final. However Perez is adamant the supporters deserve some excitement in what has been an awful season so far.
The fans need something more from us in those competitions. We want to fight for the FA Cup, and try to get as far as we can.
Part of being a player at this club is knowing how long they have not won a trophy.
We have not even got past the fourth round much in recent seasons, and that is a tradition we have to change. We have to look after the FA Cup this season.
Every competition, we have to fight for it. It’s 61 years in May since Newcastle last won it, such a long time ago. We have a chance
Despite both player and Head Coach assuring fans a strong side would be fielded, would Newcastle United be better off resting a few first team players. The crunch match against Manchester United should dictate McClaren’s tactical decision, with the possibility of dropping out of the Premier League becoming more and more perceivable as the fixture list dwindles down.
