Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony believes three Englishmen would have scored more goals than Aleksandar Mitrovic. The comments come in the wake of three glaring misses in three games from the Serbian, who has quickly become a fan favourite on Tyneside.
MacAnthony was answering a twitter question from Toon fan, who quizzed whether the fee paid for Mitrovic would have been better spent on Charlie Austin.
Now MacAnthony knows Dwight Gayle, who Newcastle have been rumoured to be interested in, very well. He signed him for a potential £700k fee before the star’s big money move to Crystal Palace.
Jordan Rhodes, on the other hand, is a proven scorer in the Championship. Blackburn took a gamble on him in their last few moths of Premier League football, no-one else has dared to try their chances with the Scotsman.
