Siem De Jong has spoken about his current situation at Newcastle United and admits the lack of minutes on the pitch for the former Ajax star is ‘frustrating‘.
The former Ajax captain De Jong told Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad;
It sucks, especially because I need the minutes to get into a rhythm and get used to the physical games in the Premier League

However due to very unfortunate lengthy injuries since his £6 million pound move to Tyneside in July 2014 Siem has found himself unable to nail down a starting place in Steve McClarens side and told the Dutch newspaper that this is not the ‘easiest situation’, but admits he still has to prove his worth to the coaching staff and win his place, especially with the likes of Aleksandar Mitrovic arriving in the summer.
The 26-year-old Dutchman made 158 appearances for Ajax, scoring 57 goals. He’s also been capped by Holland 6 times, scoring twice. He’s netted twice for Newcastle in 19 appearances for the club, one coming in 3-2 home loss to Swansea and the other in this season’s Capital One Cup against Northampton, which resulted in a 4-1 victory for the black and whites.
Do you think De Jong has been given enough playing time?
