Football is indeed a cruel game.
Newcastle entered today’s game in high spirits and good form, whereas Martinez’s Everton hadn’t won any of their last three games.
Yet again, missed chances from the Magpies made them rue the result of the match. A last-gasp winner from Tom Cleverley meant that Everton ran away as 1-0 winners.
United deserved much more than this, especially considering their determined, gutsy performance. With that result, they now sit in 18th place – the relegation zone.
