Further reports have come through this week that Steve McClaren is planning to bring QPR’s Charlie Austin and Tottenham Hotspur’s Andros Townsend to Newcastle United during the upcoming January transfer window.
The Express are reporting that Newcastle will bid for the duo in order to propel them from relegation danger.
Austin was strongly linked to Newcastle in the summer, but the Magpies were unwilling to meet QPR’s £15m valuation.

Townsend’s name has been mentioned as a potential Newcastle target ever since the start of the season, with the winger falling out of favour at Spurs and reportedly having been told by the North London club that he is surplus to requirements.
Townsend would no doubt be interested in a move to Newcastle in order to regain first-team football ahead of this summer’s European Championships. Spurs would require a fee of at least £8m to sell the Englishman.

Austin’s contract expires this summer so it would be expected that the £15m price tag will have dropped.
The striker is in no hurry to leave Loftus Road, but has said in recent months that although he will not force a move away, Premier League football would be preferable.
