Newcastle have joined Barcelona, Juventus and Arsenal in the race to sign versatile Sassuolo defender Sime Vrsaljko in January, according to Italian news outlet TMW.
The Croatian has attracted serious interest from top European clubs as a result of his impressive displays for the over-achieving Sassuolo, who currently sit 7th in Serie A.
Representatives from United have reportedly contacted the Italian club about a possible deal for the 23-year-old defender, and they have been set an asking price of over £10million.

Vrsaljko featured for Croatia in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, and he has come on leaps and bounds since arriving on the scene over a year ago.
He can play left-back, right-back and on either wing in the midfield. Newcastle have a real battle on their hands if they are serious about the deal, as Barcelona are believed to be leading the race.
Many fans feel that the left-back position poses a big problem for the Magpies, so any possible deal for Vrsaljko would definitely be welcomed – especially considering his versatility.
